Lisnagarvey High School’s motto is “Success for All”. We have a robust and highly effective system of Assessment, Tracking and Reporting. This is used as a means to monitor progression and in particular extend the learner’s potential or identify underachievement. This has brought about successful outcomes for all pupils throughout our school.
In Year 8, we use information gathered from our feeder primary schools, and our own initial entrance examinations, to gain a benchmark of where our pupils are at with their learning. We compare this with the CAT4 (Cognitive Ability Test) to see where there are elements of underachievement, or a need for further investigation. For some pupils we will also utilise the Progress in Maths and Progress in English testing to gain further insight.
Throughout Key Stage 3, these benchmarking assessments are compared against our own internal testing. The internal assessment data is collected throughout all year groups at four set intervals to best allow for regular monitoring and assist in knowing the best actions required to be taken.
Once a pupil moves to Key Stage 4, a target for each subject is set based upon all the data collected to date. We then continue to track each pupils’ progress against this target.
We use a similar target-based monitoring system at Key Stage 5. This target will be based on external data from formal examinations and internal data to inform our targets.
These targets at all key stages are determined as “fluid”, this allows us to adapt our model for pupils who are exceeding expectation or may have other pastoral concerns.
The data we collect is monitored against others within the same class, subject, similar subject or year group. We also will look at trend analysis against past years to see what teaching and learning methodologies or courses are best suited to the pupils here at Lisnagarvey.
We are a data-led school who provide every opportunity for pupils to reach their full potential in external examinations and coursework allowing the pupils to gain personal success.
